Rational therapy has base on the thought which states that mostly all problems takes birth in thought being irrational, like pessimists and perfectionists quite often suffers because of issues which are related with thinking being irrational. The above statement can be described by an example say when a minor failure is encountered by a perfectionist then a major failure can be perceived. To live a life balanced an individual should establish emotions of sensible standard.
Rational therapy is now termed as (REBT) Rational emotive behavior therapy. Rational therapy is a type of the cognitive behavior therapy and Ellis has elaborated it in mid of 1950’s.
Rational theory has its basis on few principles which have profound significance:
- A person is responsible himself for his own actions and emotions.
- A person’s emotions causing harm and dysfunctional conduct are outcome of his thinking which is irrational.
- A person is capable of learning many realistic opinions and can make those views as his part by practicing.
- A person can experience deeper approval of himself and more satisfaction by creating perspectives based on reality.
Few beliefs, the rational theory, works against are:
- The person who acts wickedly or wrongly must get a severe punishment.
- It should be necessary for everyone to love adults and approve all work done by him.
- A person should make oneself thoroughly adequate, achieving, competent and intelligent in every field, instead of looking himself as imperfect human being.
- Avoiding difficulties and responsibilities of his life is easy for a person and difficult for him to face problems directly.
- Outside events and people are the reason for the cause of one’s unhappiness.
- A person needs a stronger person than him on whom he can rely upon rather standing upon his own feet.
- If anything for a person is dangerous or fearsome then he should terribly take into consideration those things rather than facing the situation with head-on.
