Results of the French Revolution
The most significant consequence was that the land no longer was in the position of the nobles and the clergy .As Feudalism was abolished, individualism was given prominence over capitalism. Peasant proprietors became prominent as they were able to purchase land that was taken away from the church and the aristocratic class. By 1791, France had a limited monarchy by which the monarch could temporary veto laws, but could not dissolve the legislative assembly which was the single law making body in France .In addition the judiciary was an elected body with independent powers and there came to be local governments at three levels- departments, district and communes. However, in spite of the Declaration of Rights, there were differences in gender. Women were passive citizens with no rights to vote whereas male citizens who paid direct taxes had the right to vote. However, the greatest effects of the French Revolution on other nations were the feeling of nationalism, and the spread of democratic ideal along with the Declaration of the Rights of Man.f
The Reconstruction Phase of France
This period was for a period from 1789 - 1791 which was comparatively peacefully. People maintained faith in the freedom and unity as seen in the celebration of Festival of Federation on July 14, 1790.Land from the ecclesiastical class was confiscated and laws were reformed. The Civil Constitution of the Clergy (1790) brought about drastic changes by the reorganization of the churches. Further, King Louis accepted the Constitution of 1791 and with the dissolution of the assembly. However, the unity of the Third Estate was shaken by social and religious strives.
The Revolution of 1792
The newly elected legislative assembly felt that Austria was the reason for many agitations and the French Revolution in France. The constitution collapsed and Austria and Prussia invaded France .France was again in a state of chaos. King Louis was imprisoned by the revolutionaries. The legislative assembly ordered for fresh election. Many people were massacred by the revolutionaries in France.
