History and its Scope

History is a story of the bygone days and has a lot of significance and truth. It came down in the way of mouth and letter was written down for posterity. It is important for everyone to be aware of the past, as the present is based on past experiences. It has examples to guide us in problems that we face today .An understanding of the past helps to handle the present wisely and more efficiently. Being ignorant of the history of the past shows indifference and disbelief about historical matters. History does the work of simplifying what happened in the past and provides the essence of the matter without exaggerating the facts. These truths can be tested through the writing of other historians on the same topic. These facts pertain to the general social out look of the time. The views of historians change with the political, social and economic milieu of the time and the story that they narrate keeps to the milieu and may largely vary with changing time. By this. we understand that history changes with time ,though the past events remain the same. Further, there is no doubt that history is based on truth, but there can some amount of falsehood that can be constructed around the fact. So it is important to verify the author, the sources, the date of publication and understand it has some bias ingrained in it. Students must be made to see History more critically so that they understand the actual story than to accept everything that on print or the electronic media. History subtly teaches values that they need to know to lead a better life. Two or three versions of the same event can be studied for a sound understanding of what really happened in the past.. As apart of humanities or social science today other disciples are part of history such as anthropology, geography economics and archeology .Specialization and research in these disciplines that lead to a career in the universities as a professor or a historian with a special area of interest.
