Role of Government
The role of government is of utmost importance in several aspects for a country. The government ensures social security and maintains public order in a country. It provides healthcare and educational facilities to people. Devises and implements policies for the welfare of people. It helps in the development of the country by enhancing its economy. The responsibilities of the government are numerous.
The role of government in health maintenance of its people is very vital. Health ministries ensure proper implementation of policies that focus on health development. They provide eminent healthcare services, organize funds for the health maintenance and treatments of those who cannot afford them, aids medical researches to improvise treatments for diseases that plague the country and the like. They develop policies, programs, etc that ensure deliverance of healthcare services and educate people about the adoption of healthy living habits. Many Non-Governmental Organizations also function to achieve healthcare oriented objectives. Health professionals are given adequate training with medical research in several aspects. Health ministries are responsible for execution of public health functions such as mass immunization, implementation of food safety measures, environmental protection, providing access to medical facilities to rural and remote areas and the like.
The role of government in economic development can be seen with the measures such as tax collection and reforms made by the government in banking, agriculture development and public welfare. The expanse of many industries can be credited to the standards set by the government for labor wages. Several agencies have been set up to monitor and aid economic development such as committees that regulate the stock market, ensure bank deposits and guarantee pensions to those retired thus providing social security. The government helps to stabilize fluctuations related to income, employment and general pricing of services. The initiatives taken towards economic growth and social security are endless.
The development of a country essentially lies in the increase in its number of well educated citizens. Thus the role of government in education of its people is plausible. The government implements policies that financially aid the less privileged for education and provides facilities for the people in rural or remote areas to gain access to education. It also sets standards for the quality of education delivered. Organizes educational institutions and provides scholarships.
The government also ensures public order. It provides protection to each individual and secures public property. It uses military defense to confront enemies, be it domestic or foreign. The responsibilities of the government are just endless to provide its people a secure living environment.
