John Smith
He was born on January 1580 and is considered one of the champions who stood to stabilize the condition in Jamestown, Virginia during the starving years. He is also responsible for bringing about an amicable trade relationship between the Native Powhatans and the colonists thereby pulling Jamestown through the rough times. He is remembered as an English soldier, explorer and author as well as for his role in establishing the first English colony in Jamestown. Unlike many writers of his time, he was gave both the negative and positive sides pf colonization so that people are aware of the plan facts about the opportunities in America in the form of industries . He married the daughter of the Powhatan chief, thereby establishing an amicable relationship between the colonists and the local Natives. He is credited of being the leader of the Virginia colony for a year (1608-1609) during which he established trade and brought about prosperity. His books and maps have been guides to many Englishmen who wished to settle down in the New World. He became a part of the scheme to colonize Virginia in order to bring heavy profit to the Virginia Company at London through the charter granted by James I, the King of England. He left with his crew to Virginia in three small ships. the Discovery, the Susan Constant and the Godspeed, on December 20, 1606.As he was a troublemaker during the voyage, Captain Christopher Newport decided to execute him in the new colony, but was later left him off as the Virginia Company at London had designated him as the leader of the Jamestown, the newly established English colony. In 1615, Smith was captured by French pirates, but he managed to escape and return to England. He spent the rest of his life in England as a writer who promoted American colonization by England. He died at an early age of 51 in 1631.
