National Politics
The politics of this time was also termed as Gilded politics that witnessed the contest between the two rival groups the Republicans vs Democrats. Republican William McKinley became the president in 1896 and was re-elected again in 1900.He was in favor of the industrialists who supported high tariff and Gold Standards. During this time political Progressives were gaining popularity .There were more for reforms on women's suffrage, direct election of United States senators, minimum wages, better work standards, and regulated rates for common carriers and services. They goal was to create a society that was perfect in all ways.
