Benjamin Franklin
He is remembered as the founding fathers of the United States. A soldier, statesman diplomat, author, printer, and politician and scientist, civic activist and inventor of great repute was born at Milk Street, in Boston, Massachusetts on January 17, 1706 .At an early age he left home to seek make a living. At Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he worked at a printing house and later as a as clerk, shopkeeper, and book keeper the Thomas Denham business He is credited for having invented the lightning rod, bifocals, the Franklin stove, a carriage odometer, and the glass armonica. He had formed a group like minded people called the Junto, and with their contribution established the first Library Company of Philadelphia: in1731. The Stamp Act was repelled by the parliament due to his effort and was considered a great diplomat for fostering Franco - American relationship He also established the first fire department in Pennsylvania. He was an important figure in drafting the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Besides, he was Postmaster General under the Continental Congress during the period 1785 to 1788 and also served as 1785 to 1788, the President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania during the period 1785 to 1788. He is also credited to have published the Poor Richard's Almanack in 1732 which became popular throughout America. He has also been an editor of the Pennsylvania Gazette which became a forum to discuss a variety of local issues and reforms. This work The Way to Wealth was written in 1758 after the publication of Poor Richard's Almanack and his biography became one of the best classics of the time. He is also responsible for having sowed important Puritan values in the American society like thrift, hard work, education, community spirit, and self - governance. He opposed authoritarianism in religion and politics and favored democratic principles.
