Crash and Great Depression

Cultural Crash

Before the Great Depression, there were other cultural issues that had cropped up due the clash in values between the traditional values of America with the new values emerging out of recent developments. The most glaring controversy that divided the people of America during this time was the issue of Prohibition that came into effect by the Eighteenth Amendment of the Constitution and later repealed in 1933,by the Twenty-First Amendment.

Secondly, 1920s saw the revival of the extremist group, the Ku Klux Klan that upheld the ethic race and purity of the white against the threat of the black immigrants that had flown into America in the recent past.

The Great Depression - 1929

There were number of both internal and external that caused the Crash of 1929. The period between 1929 - 1933 was the worst period with unemployment reaching to nearly 25,America's Gross national Product(GNP)sunk from $104 in 1929 to $59 billions in 1932, and banks closed sealing savings of many Americans. Farms and house closure had escalated. People had to face the brunt of this economic crash as there was absolutely no aid from the government. President Herbert Hoover worked out plans to improve the situation but failed to alleviate the economic crash. He was succeeded by Franklin. D. Roosevelt, of the Democratic Party was efficiently able to get the Americans out of the economic crisis and also fight the World War II. Hence he has had a long term in office the President till his death in 1945.
