American Isolationism
After the World War I and the rejection of America into the international organization, America followed a principle of Isolationism. The Immigration Act of early 1920s restricted the entry of immigrants into the country. Moreover, after the World War I, the congress passed a series of neutrality Acts that kept America at bay from any war in future. The Acts such as the Johnson Act of 1934 that did not permit America to lend loans to foreign countries that had not paid back the previous debts and the Neutrality Resolution Act of 1935 that prohibited the sale of arms to warring countries and travel to foreign lands that were at war. President also followed a good neighbor policy which replaced imperialistic tendency with conferences and cordiality especially with relation with Cuba and Philippines. However, tensions in the international arena forced America to end Isolationism and enter world politics. At the international front, the League of Nations could not prevent wars ore protect countries that were attacked, Japan invaded Manchuria, a Chinese province in 1931, Italy and Germany adopted fascist regime and followed a policy of aggression towards its neighbors. At the out break of the war in Europe in 1939, America did proclaim to be a neutral country and only provided arms to Britain, China, and the Soviet Union until Japan attacked the Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and forced America to join the World War II.. America entered the World War II and until the surrender of Japan, Italy and Germany in 1945.
