Introduction To Social Studies

Social studies mean the "integrated study of the social sciences and humanities to promote civic competence,”. Social studies is popularly recognized as the name of a course or set of courses taught in schools. Social studies also are to study specific aspects of human society.

Social Studies teach about local community and family in schools at different levels, elementary, middle and high school. Moreover study of past and current human behavior and interactions like sociology, history, political science, economics, geography, psychology and anthropology.

Social studies are classified in varied disciplines as mentioned below.

Sociology:

Sociology is the scientific or systematic study of society and human social action. Sociology was originally founded by Auguste Comte (1798–1857) in 1838.[30] Comte made the journey to bring history, psychology and economics through the scientific understanding of the social realm.

Sociology is an academic answer to the challenges thrown by modernity, like industrialization, urbanization, secularization. Sociologists say that Sociology is very difficult to explain.

History:

Without History there is no present. History has a base in both the social sciences and the humanities. History is called as a social science. History has base in both humanities and social sciences.

Political science:

Political science is the practice of politics in academic form and researches discipline of political systems and its behaviors.  Positive political economy, political theory and philosophy, civics and comparative politics, theory of direct democracy, apolitical governance, participatory direct democracy, national systems, cross-national political analysis, political development, international relations, foreign policy, international law, politics, public administration, administrative behavior, public law, judicial behavior, and public policy are sub fields in Political Science.  

Economics:

Economics is a form of a social science that looks in to production, distribution, and consumption of wealth. The word "economics" comes from the Greek word Oikos meaning ’family’, or "managing the state."

Economics is the "the science which studies human behavior as a relation between scarce means having alternative uses." Without lack and alternative uses, there is no economic problem. To put in a nutshell economics studies the people’s needs and wants, how they deal with finance.  

Geography:

Geography is split in to two main sub fields and they are human geography and physical geography. Human Geography deals with built environment and how space is created, viewed and managed by humans as well as the influence humans have on the space they occupy.

Physical Geography deals with the natural environment and how the climate, vegetation & life, soil, water and landforms are produced and interact.

Psychology:

Psychology is the study of human behavior and human mind. It also deals with a variety of human activities like problems faced by individuals in daily life and treatment of mental illness.

Anthropology:

Anthropology is the study of holistic "science of man," and finds out the totality of human existence. Apart from this it also deals with every department of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Human Biology.
