Liberalism and its Critics

Liberalism and the definition of assigning liberal rights vary according to the political, civilian perspective across the globe. Liberalism in United States is chiefly defined as a broad political philosophy with its epicenter around the unalienable rights of an individual. Critics had constantly abhorred severe criticism against the rules and political situation that surrounds Liberalism while it had underwent major changes in terms of defining in recent years.

Fundamentally, the basic liberals described include freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of religion exercised under common notion that one or one’s country carries in its rule book. In contemporary times, United States has a new culture of Modern Liberalism which is another form of social liberalism that instigates voting rights for all citizens of legal age, protecting the environment besides assigning it right to survive, and voice over governmental activities in fields including but not limited to education, health care, transportation, infrastructure and human rights.

Renowned leaders of America like Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt and many others were subtle critics of classic liberalism. With their era came the modern age progressive ideals, and lead to the American liberal ideals that exist in present day. History of modern liberalism begins during the time of Arthur Schlesinger Jr. and later by great leaders developed into the concept of social welfare state. The great depression was finally overtaken by federal government’s change in liberal rights to alleviate national economic and social problems.

Basic types of Liberalism include the Classical Liberalism and Modern Liberalism. The former is based on free market economy for productive outcome solely based on natural requirement of supply versus demand without government intervention. It was surpassed by Modern methods which is strong in liberal rights but constrained by government for deriving particular path of reach.

Civil rights denied to African Americans were changed for good with the advent of Cold War liberalism to secure these rights and discrimination was abolished once for all. Rights movement in Vietnam had considerable criticism and the critics were hugely disappointed with America’s approach towards Vietnamese which led to the Environmental Protection Agency. Liberal Consensus during the Nixon years fell apart and politicians turned against it which led to a new wing of the Reagan Republicans party.

Liberalism had underwent constant criticism and critics often find themselves against the government’s imposition of rules which later slowly evolves into a new era with a completely new definition of liberal society.
