American Government and Politics

American government and politics is related to the functioning of legislative powers that are vested equally between the three branches of the government and its responsibility over the social foundation of the U.S. The government is a form of constitutional republic which has its powers shared between the Presidency formed by the President, Vice President and others, the Congress and Judiciary governed by the Supreme Court. The President is also the head of the state and head of government. While the national government powers are distributed, the federal government shares sovereignty with state governments.

Legislative powers are shared by Congress, the Senate and the house of representative while the President heads the executive branch which is independent of the legislature. U.S. constitutional laws, judicial powers, federal laws and regulations are exercised by the Supreme Court and federal courts on behalf of the Judiciary. The political system is based on democracy that is the system of public voting to represent a candidate to rule the nation on their behalf. The representatives are from the political parties and in America, predominant parties are Republican Party and Democratic Party while others have little share in decision making electoral process.

American government and politics is quite different from other countries of the world. In here, the law abiding citizens of different areas come under different rules and regulations. While major metros are national government ruled, others also come under state government and local government regulations in places like counties, municipalities and special districts. Apart from the major legislative, executive and judiciary branch, state government has the power to impose laws that doesn’t contradict the U.S. constitution or Federal regulations on fields like education, contract law, family law and criminal law.

Government policies had varied from time to time and it has adopted with respect to needs of the social society where powers are shared even further so that the national government doesn’t hold the burden of managing the huge nation with diverse population. It also comprises of the Local government that has a huge list of townships, counties, municipalities and special districts under its scrutiny. City governments, mayor council, the commission, council manager, town & village government and county government are other form of ruling bodies of the United States.

Political culture believes in equality before law, democracy for citizen power, freedom of religion or separation of church and state, and freedom of speech to express views. American government and politics has distinct features yet operates on the base line of democratic republic.
