Convex Lens
Introduction:
Convex lens is the most seen lens and it is widely used for many purposes and it is one of the types of simple lenses.
What is lens?
Lens is an optical device which will refract the light rays in two aspects either in diverging manner or in converging manner.
What type of lens is convex?
Convex lens is also called as converging lens and sometimes it is called as positive meniscus lens. To study about the convex lens in detail, we have to study the properties of convex lens. They are:
Lens equation:
This is the equation which helps to find the position and the nature of the image formed by an object. Such formula is
1/u + 1/v = 1/f
Here,
'u' represents the distance between the object and the lens,
'v' represents the distance between the image and the lens,
'f' represents the focal length of the convex lens.
In convex lens, the object distance, image distance and focal length are in positive. By keeping the object at different positions, the position and nature of the image will alter.
| Position of the object | Position of the image | Nature of the image |
| At infinity | At F | Real and inverted |
| Beyond 2F | Between F and 2F | Real and inverted |
| At 2F | At 2F | Real and inverted |
| Between F and2F | Beyond 2F | Real and inverted |
| At F | At infinity | Real and inverted |
| Between O and F | On the same side of the lens | Erect and virtual |
