Philosophy of Science
The assumption, methods, foundations and the implications of science is the main focus of the philosophy of science. There are also problems in particular sciences like philosophy of physics and philosophy of biology which is also considered as the main problems to be focused by the philosophy of science.
The philosophy of science has also accommodated some prominent scientists though the main stream practitioners are philosophers. As like ornithology to birds the philosophy of science is very essential to scientists says Richard Feynman. Science was distinguished from non-science by the central question philosophy of science according to Karl Popper. There are many logical positivists who grounded their views on the philosophy of science in attempting to observe it while non-science was considered non-observational and hence nonsensical. Science at its central feature aims at the falsifiable claims argued the famous philosopher Popper. Falsifiable claims are claims that can be proven false.
No philosophers have accepted the difference between science and non-science. Even some philosopher regarded the problem between the science and the non-science as an unsolvable one. There are two main questions about science. They are
One should acknowledge the scientific truths and the scientific theories should be regarded by everyone because science as a whole aims at truth. This has been the claim of scientific realists. On the other hand, the antirealists claimed though the aims of the scientific theories are useful it doesn’t make them true. The scientific approaches should be considered only useful but it shouldn’t be taken as truth.
The success of recent scientific theories is frequently pointed by the realists who bring out the evidence for the truth. But, the Antirealist show the success of false modeling assumptions, the history of science, and the evidence against scientific realisms derived for the postmodern criticisms. Even the anti realists bring forth the epistemic morals to support themselves. The success of the theories are explained by some antirealists without any reference to truth whereas some other antirealists don’t even accept that the scientific theories are true, they just say that the theories are not successful and false.
The philosophical and the foundational problem that existed in the philosophy of particular science that fall under the umbrella philosophy of science have been taken into consideration by some of the philosophers. The twentieth and the twenty first century has been the increasing century for the philosophers.
