Philosophy of Religion
The questions regarding religion which included the examination of religious experience, the existence of God and even the nature of God are referred to as 5. The analysis of religious texts and religious language and the relationship of science of religion are the main duties of the philosophy of religion.
The philosophy of religion is different from the religious philosophy in its nature of seeking to discuss the questions that reckon the nature of religion as a whole, and not giving importance to the problems that are created to by a particular kind of belief system.
It has also been referred to as a part of metaphysics. The first causes as described by Aristotle in his Metaphysics have been one of the major subjects of his investigation. Aristotle treated the first cause as the unmoved mover which is treated like God, particularly in the Medieval West where Aristotle’s work has become so prevalent.
The religious discussion has always been on very special sort of entities like angels, supernatural forces, gods, and many events or processes like the ability to do or know anything, or the creation of the universe or the interaction between gods and humans. These discussions are considered important to understand the historical relationship between the philosophy of religion and metaphysics.
The members of religious traditions have got strong beliefs in the things that exist in different ways which are just more than everyday things. There has been a special philosophical problem due to the religious belief which has also called for the clarification of the central metaphysical concepts in its extreme.
Moreover, just metaphysical questions have not been the concern of the philosophy of religion. It has also actively involved in epistemology, philosophic logic, moral philosophy, philosophy of language and so many other topics.
The basic question of philosophy of religion is what is God? Is being analysed by the philosophers. This question can even be phrased as what is the meaning of the word God? As many philosopher looks for a definite answer to this question. It has been quiet difficult to reach a definition and the philosophers are not satisfied with the answers that describes the way the word it is used, they wanted to know core thing about the meaning of God.
But before attempting to know the meaning of the word God, it is necessary to know the in what sense the term is to be defined. After getting the concept clear we can come to conclusion.
