Continental Philosophy
Referring to the region from where it originated and sustained, Continental philosophy refers to the definitive set of traditions that came from the mainland of Europe during the nineteenth and twentieth century. The concept of philosophy rotated around the analytic movement and a need for a new name emerged when in the second half of twentieth century, philosophers with different traditions and origins. They were English speaking people based on which the continental name came into being. It is a wide collection of different areas including French feminism, structuralism, hermeneutics, existentialism, German idealism, critical theory of Frankfurt school and Western Marxism.
Non-trivial claims are very much incorporated in almost all philosophical movements and it would be hard to separate them from ideal traditions. Continental philosophy from what historians have defined is a vague, more like a family resemblance to the set of beliefs. They had been a collection of disparate philosophical views bought together under one roof for scholarly studying. The term lacks a clear definition as it covers a wide range of topics. It was described by Simon Glendinning as more pejorative than descriptive in defining it. The key factors of the philosophy are that philosophers who believe in it reject scientism. This in turn disconnected any possible association with scientific theories or any analytical theories to derive conclusions.
The conditions of continental philosophy varies based on factors such as context, space and time, language, culture, history and so on. If compared, it is like scientists who opine non-usage of scientific methods when it comes to inquiry. Analytic philosophy is capable of being analyzed thoroughly right from the scratch including their historical origins and in terms of discrete problems. The motto and brain behind the definition states continental studies to be a philosophical argument is strongly attached to the historical emergence with textual and contextual conditions. Some of the other logics are diverted towards human experience stating that if it is a contingent creation it can be recreated in other ways by retaining the essence and flavor of the teaching. The characteristic trait of the Europe teachings are they emphasize on metaphilosophy. The natural sciences came into being only in the late twentieth century which had led to redefine the terms. The method and nature of philosophy were redesigned or redefined according to German idealism or phenomenology which contradicted by replacing traditional views using refurbishing as a tool.
