­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­British Philosophy:

The philosophical tradition of the people within the Great Britain and the citizens of Great Britain abroad are referred to as British philosophy. The English philosopher and the Franciscan, Roger Bacon who is also known as Doctor Mirabilis which in Latin means wonderful teacher has stressed on the empirical methods. He advocated the modern scientific methods being inspired by Aristotle and Plato. He is also credited among the earlier European advocates who advocated the modern scientific methods. John Duns Scotus who was born in the 1265 has been considered as one of important philosopher during the time of the High Middle Ages. He was ordained as a priest in Narthampton, England. He flourished at Oxford, Cambridge and Paris during this time. Even a note in the Codex 66 of Merton College notifies his growth and prosperity in the Paris. He died in 1308 and buried in the Church of the Franciscans which was beautified by Pope John Paul II.

He is known for the univocity of being which is considered as the idea of haecceity. This concept holds the view that existence is the most abstract concept that is with us human beings and also it is applicable to everything that exists in this world. The idea of “thisness” is the core concept of haecceity. This concept concentrates on the discrete qualities, characteristics and the properties of a thing which is capable of making that thing a particular thing.

During the early modern period there are many philosophers who appraised the British Philosophy. Of this Francis Bacon who has been author in addition to being a philosopher. He has also been a scientist, a lawer and jurist. These exposures have made him to bring out many new philosophies. He studied the preservation of heat and the effects of freezing. He remained highly influential in and around Britain though his political career was a failure.

In the British Philosophy, Francis Bacon was known for his works. He was also called the father of empiricism. The deductive methodologies for scientific inquiry was established a popularized by him. These methodologies are called Baconian method or just scientific method.  There was a new turn in the theoretical framework of science and the rhetorical part of science with the demand for Francis Bacon for the planned procedure in investigating everything. The sad part of the story is that he was killed during his experiment which in turn has joined him in the rare historical group of scientist.
