X bar Chart

What is an X bar chart?

X chart happens to be a type of a statistical quality control chart that helps in monitoring the arithmetic means of samples in constant size.  By using this chart method you can also predict the outcome of the project.

Some of the benefits of X char t include:

  • This type of charts are used for characteristics that are measured on continuous scale such as weight, height, thickness, thinness, temperature and many more.
  • When samples are collected at regular intervals for a business projects, then the data given by the chart results will be accurate for the project.
  • The chart helps in monitoring the process.
  • When you do proper calculations you tend to get accurate results, and these accurate results will have you save a lot of time and money in the process.
  • It is the x chart that helps in understanding whether the variable is under statistical quality control or not, in case it is not under statistical quality control then you can go ahead and reject the process. So in short the x chart helps you understand the future the process has.
  • To make the best possible use of the x chart, it should be used in conjunction with the variation chart like the r chart or s chart. When you compare the outcome of the x chart with respect to the outcome of the r chart or the s chart you will be able to get an accurate result as to the chart is under statistical quality control or not. And in case the chart is not under statistical quality control then you can stop the whole process

The chart consists of pair of charts:

  • One chart monitors the process standard deviation
  • The other monitors the process mean.

Scenarios where these charts can be advantageous are:

  • The sample size used in small
  • The sample size used is constant

Questions:

  • What is an X chart and how can it be used in operation management of an organization?
  • What are the benefits of an X chart?
