Process Capability

What does process capability mean?

To explain in lame men terms, it’s exactly as the words process capability implies, it is the capacity of an organization to meet the full ability it has been designed to meet. It takes a unique combination of tools, machinery, and man power to finally complete the task at hand. So when all these factors are involved extra care should also be taken to complete the project on time and get benefited through the project. So it all depends on the process capability of an organization to do the task in hand and give good quality final output.

The two parts of process capability are:

• Measure the variability of the output of the process
• Compare the variability with the already specified process

The final result that is expected is that the final output meets the needs of the end customer. So when it is the customer that you want to satisfy, then you will have to look in ways through which the needs of the customers can be satisfied. The people who are involved in the production department can put a questioner to their clients asking about what sort of changes they require. And after the final project is completed, the ability of a project to meet the expectations can be expressed in a single number using a process capability index. 

By using this process capability technique you can get a clear idea as to whether the product you are designing meets the expected result or not. And in case the product does not meet the specified criteria then you can look into options of making your product better. The final judgment lies in the hand of the people for whom you as an organization has designed the product for.

 Traditional process capability works under the assumption that every variable that is present in the process of process capability acts independently. It is their independent action that comes together to give a great and desired output.  But there are also some instances where the variable involved are dependent. So the action that you may need to take will definitely vary from one situation to another.
