SURGERY CARE
Introduction
Patients who underwent surgery in specific with the use of general anesthesia (for losing sensation of the tissues to be operated) tend to be dependent on the ability, talent and care towards surgical nursing care. Additional care should be administered (than that of the general nursing care) as it impacts the patients body parts and health. Most of the surgical cases induce two types of stresses, namely, physical stress and psychological stress. The stresses are completely dependent on the degree of surgery required and the injured body parts. A surgical nursing care patient should be made to understand the risks that are associated with injury and he/she must cooperate to reduce the self sufferings.
Physical stress
The injury that damages the tissues or cells of individual body parts are referred as physical stress. This may be due to the use of incision equipment that is used for piercing the tissues. It is clear that only surgeons and their assistants can grip the tissues and organs. Incisions can cut the skin and mucous membrane of the internal organs and /or the tissues. Ultimately, this ends up in the inflammation of tissues, formation of bruise symptoms. The symptoms are felt when the anesthesia dose retreats.
Psychological stress
Some patients are worried about both their physical and mental stress as a result of anxiety and worries. Nursing care is a must for an individual to overcome some negative feelings that are often felt.
Surgery nursing care
Nurse should ensure that the information pertaining to the patients were listed in the Surgery checklist. The checklist consists of information like health records, symptoms, allergies that are developed due to surgery, preoperative care that are administered, surgery process and actions taken by physician. As a legal practice before administration of anesthesia, risk should be clearly indicated to patients. Surgical team ( physician and anesthesiologist) should sign the paper stating the risk involved in the surgery and get it signed by the patient( when the patient is in conscious state). The reports like laboratory reports and scan copies should be maintained. Nurse should assist the patient about personal hygiene and associated care after surgery.
