SMOKING ADDICTION
Smoking addiction is a type of addiction similar to drug and alcohol addiction which are not controlled by an individual. They produce unusual mental stress, physical damage and emotional reactions. Every individual is aware of smoking as injurious to health. Some individuals know how smoking is risky and are addicted. It is predicted that individuals who are addicted to smoking will die 10 to 15 years before the expected death of a normal life. Many think, as they are addicted, it is not possible for them to quit. It is true in some cases. Upon mental and physical control, one can quit smoking but it is difficult. Firm decision to quit under any circumstances helps you taking in successful path. About 2.5 % of smokers quit smoking on an average every year. If you can quit at the age of 35 to 50, it avoids 90% of cancer formation, especially lung cancer.
Reason for addiction
Reason for addiction is presence of Nicotine, addictive drug in tobacco. When smoke is inhaled, nicotine passes through blood stream within 7 seconds via mouth, nose and lungs. Psychoactive drug nicotine disturbs the brain activity due to its stimulant effects. The effects are less when compared to other addictions. Smokers develop tolerance behavior for nicotine, hyper active, anxiety and are stressed. Duration of addiction is directly proportional to ill effects and withdrawal symptoms, if desired.
Physical addiction
Smoking induces chain reaction in the body system. With the help of neurotransmitters, nicotine serves as a receptor. Acetyl cholines are neurotransmitters. As a transmitter, it delivers the messages that are released by nerve cells. Hence, they alter their own electrical activities. When messages are transmitted, body immune system recognizes acetyl choline as general receptor leading to physiological function alteration. The concentration of nicotine delivery is more, then normal body cells recognize it as natural receptors. Electricity changes can occur in brain structure or in functions of brain.
Factors implicit
By proper conditioning of nicotine inhalation, they can be controlled. Physiological factors outline the exposure level. Sociological factors helps in proper learning of situations and pharmacological effects.
