ROSEMARIE RIZZO PARSE

Rosemarie Rizzo Parse worked as Niehoff Chair and Professor in Loyola University, Chicago, as a founder of Nursing Science Quarterly and Institute of Human Becoming. She was an editor of her foundation. She was a President of Discovery International Inc. She used to deliver speeches in International conferences on various topics like oncology,epistemology and other nursing aspects.

Human becoming theory

Rosemarie Rizzo Parse started to work on Human Becoming Theory in the 1970s. She first published her Human becoming theory in the year 1981. She developed this as nursing theory for humans. This theory was developed in combination with Martha Rogers. It mainly concentrates on paradoxical rhythmical pattern interaction of health with human beings and environment.

Assumptions of Human Becoming Theory

Rosemarie Rizzo Parse derived nine assumptions based on three classical themes.

• Meaning: Imagine, value & lingual
• Rhythmicity: Reveal-conceal, connect-separate & enable-limit
• Transcendence: Power, transform and origin

Meaning concept

Imaging concept: Couples who are infertile may think of adoption of other’s child

Valuing concept: When a lady gets older, she started taking care of diet according to age

Language concept: When an individual at the verge risk of dying from cancer,he/she may feel strengthened when he/she speaks with her relatives and family members.

Rhythmic concept

Inconsistent rhythmic patterns are due to interaction of revealing and concealing concept, connecting and separating concept and enabling with limitation concept. Human and environment or universe share mutually co-creation of rhythmic patterns among them. When human population grows, rhythmic patterns are either broken or disturbed. As a result, universe splits in to sub components, some of which can move towards each other and repel each other. Interaction of revealing some parts and concealing certain parts takes place continuously.

Revealing concealing concept: When a young girl is pregnant, she must reveal the truth to her parents.

Enabling limiting concept: When an individual is capable of undergoing a surgery but refused to go ahead.

Connecting separating concept: Aggressive treatment of daughter is denied by her parents to reduce sufferings.

Transcendence concept

Powering concept: Parents learn to be strong and improve their status of lifestyle after the loss of children in an accident unfortunately. 

Originating: When an individual saves money for his/her relatives.

Transforming: When an individual help is given by family, then they sought from outside or care providers.
