Terminology description

Pediatrics is a branch of science that deals with nursing care of children, new born infants and teenagers. Pediatric care is an interesting profession for those who love children. At certain instances, pediatric nurse feels that their profession tends to be hectic since they serve patients of age ranging from 0 to 21 (i.e. children to teenagers). When the nurse starts getting involved in to this profession, they feel that no two days are the same. The person who practices pediatric care is referred as pediatrician.

History

Pediatrics was developed around in the 1980s. Abraham Jacobi was known as ‘Father of Pediatrics’ for the contributions he made towards the world of nursing. Soraneus gave first manuscript for pediatrics in the 2nd century AD. First book on pediatrics named the ‘Diseases of Children’ was published by Rhazes in Persia. First printed book titled, ‘Book on Disease in Children’ was devoted by Bagallarders in the year 1472. First pediatric hospital was started in the year 1802 in Paris.

Need for pediatric nursing

Children always require additional care as their body is easily susceptible to disease. Whenever a child is infected, the symptoms can be unexpected and sometimes it may be extremely severe. Right from the birth, a child should be properly cared in order to prevent from harmful infections. At this juncture, a pediatric nurse can pamper the child. Pediatric nurses have very close relationship with the child’s family members.

Interesting part of pediatric care is how well a nurse can take care of a child. They boost the child’s self confidence and guide them to handle the stressful situations in a smart way. The person who practices pediatric nursing should possess higher attitude and should have an open mind to teach young souls. They may even help to reduce the child’s stress, anger, guilt and anxiety.
