MYRA LEVINE
Myra Estrin Levine was born in Chicago, Illinois in the year 1920. She did her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing in the year 1944 from Cook County School, her BS in Nursing in the year 1949 from Chicago University, her MS in nursing in the year 1962 from Wayne State University. She worked as surgical nursing supervisor, civil nurse, private nurse, professional professor in the University of Illinois, Chicago and in Tel Aviv University, Israel and also in administration of nursing. So far, she has published 77 articles in her life time. One of her multiple publications was on an Introduction to Clinical Nursing during the years 1969-1973 and again in 1989. Myra Levine published her Conversation model for nursing practice in the year 1973. She has been awarded Honorary Doctorate in the year 1992 from Loyola University. She died in the year 1996 at her 86th age.
Levine’s conservation model concept
Principle of Conservation model to adapt and wholeness maintenance was remarkable development of Myra Levin in the year 1989. They are accomplished with the help of four conservation principles.
Conservation of energy
Proper management of energy that are required as input and are released as output has to be balanced in such a way that fatigueless environment is provided. The balance is brought by taking rest, taking nutrition and exercising for instance.
Conservation of structural integrity
Proper maintenance or restoring the health of an individual especially when there is a physical fracture. This enhances the speed of healing of wound. For instance, maintain personal hygiene of an individual and ROM exercise.
Conservation of personal integrity
This concept helps in proper reorganization of an individual who lacks self respect, determination, recognition and awareness. For instance, space constraint recognition and protection.
Conservation of social integrity
Considering social responsibilities, traditional customs and spiritual group are recognized. For instance , a corporate social responsibility to empower the communities is social integrity concept.
