MADELEINE LEININGER
Madeleine M. Leininger was a pioneer in nurse practicing anthropology. She worked as a Dean in University of Washington School of nursing in the year 1969, and continued her service till 1974. Her trip to New Guinea in the year 1960 gave a new insight of practicing nursing care. This trip made her to understand the client culture and the way to provide nursing care. She is widely known as ‘Margaret Mead of Nursing’. She founded a nursing program called ‘Transcultural Nursing School’ in the year 1974. She has published nearly 27 books. She started her Transcultural Nursing Society in the year 1974.
She gave many nursing materials in her discussion board called ‘Sunrise Enabler’ (i.e- Sunrise model), Dr. Madeleine Leininger informations, awards and scholarships in the year 2005. She has her own web page where many discussions take place periodically and Leininger answers viewer’s panel queries. Madeleine M. Leininger graduated PhD, LHD, DS, CTN, RN, FAAN and FRCNA. She published her Transcultural nursing theory in the year 1987 which was started in middle 1960s.
Objective of transcultural theory
This helps in proper discovery of universal culture based influencing factors like health, human being, disease infected patients and death of an individual from infection. The central purpose will help in development of cultural congruency, human being safety and patients care of different traditional cultures.
