IMOGENE KING

Biography

Imogene King was born on 30th January in the year 1923 in West Point, Lowa.  She did her diploma in the year 1945 from St. John Hospital School of Nursing, St Louis, MO, her B.S. in nursing in the year 1948 from St Louis University, her M.S. in nursing in the year 1857 from same university and doctorate degree in the year 1961 from teachers college, Washington, D.C. She worked as assistant chief in nursing division of Research grants branch, Washington, D.C.  She served as a Director in School of nursing, Ohio state university during the period of 1968-1972. She also worked as assistant professor during 1961-66 and professor during 1971-80 in Loyola University, Chicago. She retired as a professor in the year 1990 from College of nursing, University of South Florida. After which she became a speaker delivering lecturers on home, provincial, national and international seminars and conferences. She has played an active member role of Florida Nurses Association, American Nurses Association in the year 1966 and Sigma Theta Tau international in the year 1989 and American Academy of nursing in the year 2005.

Apart from nursing world, she used to play golf and a faithful catholic lady. She died on 24th December, 2007. In her remembrance, a special memorial service center was constructed at St Petersburg, Florida on 4th January 2008. One more service was constructed at Fort Madison, Lowa on 19th January 2008.

Rural nursing theory

Imogene king developed a conceptual model in the mid 1960s.  Three interacting systems of King’s theory are as follows. These three systems relationship help in developing theory of goal attainment. System relationship is plausible in case of both emergency period and also for professional nursing practice in case of rural settings. This guides nursing practice and also interaction of human beings with environments.
