IDA JEAN ORLANDO PELLETIER

Ida Jean Orlando-Pelletier was born in the year 1926. She did her diploma in nursing from New York medical college, Lower fifth avenue hospital in the year 1947. Completed her B.S. in public health nursing from St. John’s University, Brooklyn in the year 1951, and her M.A. in mental health consultation from Teacher’s college, Columbia University, New York in the year 1954. Ida Jean Orlando Pelletier worked as an associate professor from Yale School of Nursing. She worked as a Director in Yale School of Nursing in the department of mental health psychiatric nursing. She also managed as a project investigator for entitled topic Integration of Mental Health Concepts when she worked in Yale School of Nursing as a grant from National Institute of Mental Health. The integration of mental concepts was included in the education curriculum of nursing practice.

Orlando theory was developed by her. Her theory was published in the book named “The Dynamic nurse patient relationship” in the year 1961. She continued her theory in McLean Hospital in Belmont where she worked as a Director for ongoing research project. After a successful evaluation, she published her research on Orlando theory in the year 1972 in the book entitled the discipline and teaching of nursing process. In addition, she was positioned at the most prestigious chairs like Harvard Community Health Plan board member, national nursing consultant and international nursing consultant. She has organized a number of lecturers on nursing practice. Midst of her busy professional life, she was married to Robert Pelletier and at present residing at Boston area.

Orlando theory

The observations of Orlando perception on nurse and patient relationship was stated in her theory. She made greater efforts to differentiate plus and minus referred as good nursing and bad nursing. According to Orlando theory, nursing practice should meet patient need and demands. Nurse should relieve patients from stress. This theory has crystal clear concepts and is widely followed by many organizations.
