Finding and Replacing Text
Sometimes after preparing a document on a word processor, you may feel that a particular word or phrase has not been correctly used. You may want to replace it with another word. If it has been used several times, the change may need to be carried out in the entire document. With Word’s Find and Replace feature, you can search for and replace the word or phrase, either selectively only at a few places, or in the complete document.
Imagine having made a brochure for the Department of Tourism. In the brochure, by mistake you have referred to the city of Washington by its official name District of Columbia. You can use the Find and Replace facility to change the spelling everywhere in the brochure. However, you may also have a sentence in the text of the type ‘The official name of Washington DC is District of Columbia’. Obliviously, you would not want to change Washington DC to District of Columbia in such as sentence. You will then have to accept or reject each change individually. Either method ensures that the change is made consistently throughout the document.
Identify text to find and Replace:
If someone else has used the Find and Replace facility in the current work session on your computer, the text that was last searched for might appear in the Find what: box. You can select the text and type over it.
Once again, if some text is already in the Replace with: box, select the text and type over it.
