Adding Special Effects in PowerPoint Presentation

Adding special effects in a presentation is the most interesting part of creating a presentation. Special effects can enhance the effectiveness of your presentation. However, there is a word of caution! Do not use them excessively. They will make your presentation ineffective by drawing attention from what you want to say. Use them moderately. Let us begin with inserting pictures in a presentation from a file.

Inserting Pictures from Files

If you have pictures stored in your computer-scanned photographs or artworks- you can insert them into PowerPoint slides, using the Picture option in the Insert menu.  You will be surprised to know that PowerPoint permits you to insert several different graphics formats.

  • Open a saved or previously stored presentation.  Let the first slide be on the screen
  •  On the Insert menu, click on Picture
  •  In the sub menu select From File. The insert picture dialog box will be on the screen. If you  do not see the Insert Picture dialog box, proceed as follows – on the C: drive double click on the folder of Program files, then on the folder of Microsoft Office, then on the folder of Clip Art and finally on the folder Popular. You will reach the Insert Picture dialog box.
  •  From the list of pictures select the one you want, say sailboat.
  •  The sailboat picture will appear on the slide
  • Drag the picture to the lover right corner. Adjust the size of the picture by pulling one of the corners.

There are even several other features that you could add to your presentation such as sound effects, animations or animating slides, setting slide timings, grouping and ungrouping pictures and many more.
