The science of women is in counterpart with andrology which refers to study of male reproductive system. The individual who practice gynaecology is referred as gynecologists or obstetricians. There is overlapping between obstetrics and gynaecology. The oldest medical text of gynaecology is Kahun Gynecological Papyrus. This text details the death of women due to fertility, pregnancy, contraception and gynecological diseases. Medical text is sub divided in to thirty four sections, where each section refers to one of the specific problem, its diagnosis and associated treatment, however prognosis is not suggested elsewhere. The treatments of gynecological problems are generally non surgical in nature. It just compromise by applying the medicine all over the affected parts of the body or just like swallowing them.
Suda practiced gynecology in Alexandria and thereafter in Rome. He practiced a method called Methodists in the school of physicians. J. Marion Sims of United States is considered as the father of gynaecology. Generally women’s consult gynecologists next to general practitioner or family practitioner for diagnosis and treatment of clinical history after examination. The gynecological test is an intimate test which is more than a normal physical system examination. For this special equipment called speculum is used. The speculum is outfitted with two blades which are hinged structured and is concave in nature. Speculum is made of plastic or metal which helps in retraction of vagina tissues and cervix can be examined. Cervix is uterus lowest part and vagina’s upper part. Gynecologists also perform bimanual examination. The ultrasound shall confirm the presence of malfunction if found in bimanual examination.
