Cardiology

Cardiology is specialty of medical that deals with heart’s disorders. Field involves treatment and diagnosis of the congenital defects of heart, coronary disease of artery, failure of heart, valvular disease of heart as well as electrophysiology. Those physicians who are specialists in cardiology are known as cardiologists. We should not get confused between a cardiologists and surgeons of cardiac, cardiovascular and a cardiothoracic. A cardiologist is a surgeon who does surgery of cardiac through sternotomy i.e. open procedures of operation on heart as well as big vessels.

Cardiology’s central point is our heart. Various features of heart like anatomical-features – atria, heart-valves, ventricles and physiological-features – systole, after load, heart-sound should be concerned. Heart’s disorders results to disease of heart and disease of cardiovascular, due to which many deaths are caused.

The heart's main responsibility is pumping blood all around our body. Blood is pumped from body (systematic-circulation) through lungs (pulmonary-circulation) then again back to body. From this we know that heart connects as well as affects our whole body.

Cardiology uses following devices:

• Stethoscope – It is acoustic device of medical for listening or auscultation to sounds inside our body, usually heart and lung sounds. Stethoscope is used also for listening flow of blood in veins and arteries.
• Devices which are used for maintaining BP:
  • Artificial-heart – A machine which replaces heart. These are used typically to bridge period to heart-transplantation.
  • Cardiopulmonary-bypass – CPB, technique which temporarily functions as lungs and heart during the surgery to maintain blood’s and oxygen’s circulation of body.
  • Intra-aortic-balloon-pump – IAPB, mechanical instrument which increases perfusion of myocardial-oxygen and cardiac-output.
  • Ventricular-assist-device – VAD, circulatory mechanical instrument which completely or partially replaces flunk heart’s function.
• Devices which are used for maintaining normal rhythm of electricity:
  • Pacemaker – Is device of medical that uses the electrical-impulses which is delivered through electrodes interacting muscles of heart for regulating the heart beat.
  • Defibrillation – It is unequivocal treatment used for life threatening ventricular-tachycardia without pulses, cardiac-arrhythmias and ventricular-fibrillation.
