Anatomy

Anatomy is considered as natural-science’s and biology’s branch which deals with structural constitutions of all living-things. Anatomy is very old-science which had its starting in the prehistoric periods. Generally the term includes human-anatomy, (phytotomy) plant-anatomy and (zootomy) animal-anatomy. In few of the aspects anatomies are related closely to the comparative-anatomy, comparative-embryology and embryology, by common origin in the evolution.

We can subdivide anatomy into the macroscopic-anatomy / gross-anatomy as well as microscopic-anatomy. The gross-anatomy, which is also known as topographical-anatomy, anthropotomy or regional-anatomy, is a study regarding the structures of anatomy which we can see through unaided sight with eyes being naked. The microscopic-anatomy as described is a study regarding minute structures of anatomy which we can see only through microscope. It includes cytology – cell's study and histology – tissue’s organizations study.

An anatomy’s history is characterized by the understanding, which is developing continuously, of structure’s and organ’s functions in body. There has been a dramatic improvement in the methods, moving forward from animal’s examination through cadaver’s dissection towards complicated techniques of technology developed during twentieth century which includes X-ray, MRI and ultrasound imaging.

We should not get confused between anatomy and anatomical-pathology which is also known as histopathology or morbid-anatomy. In Anatomical-pathology we study about the microscopic and gross visual facets of the diseased body organs.

To make the study convenient we divide it into various different manners. Anatomy’s 1 categorization is totally based upon organism’s type studied i.e. 1st animal-anatomy, 2nd plant-anatomy.

  • Animal-anatomy – It is subdivided further into the human-anatomy as well as comparative-anatomy. These finds out differences and similarities among different types of animals.
  • Plant-anatomy – It studies internal plant’s structures like development-anatomy, pathological-anatomy and embryo’s study.

Other categorization, like anatomical-art and surgical-anatomy, is totally based upon anatomy’s relationships to different other activity’s branches under anatomy’s common heading. For subdividing anatomy, another manner is through techniques that are employed like microanatomy that takes into consideration itself along with the observations that are made through microscope’s help.
