Theories On Manufacturing System

Theories of manufacturing system refer permanent production system which is normal. It can be either descriptive theory or normative theory. Descriptive theory represents the earlier practice of manufacturing and present manufacturing process. For instance historical and academic studies are of descriptive theory. It can be either intensive study or extensive study. Normative theory refers production management to optimize and production planning.

Theory of autonomous group

Autonomous groups are so efficient in finding management problem. It was first developed by Kurt Lewin. One such theory is action research and it is used in preventive medicine development.

Fordism

This social theory was named after Henry Ford. It concerns about social, economical and production phenomena. Fordism is practiced as eponymous manufacturing system to churn out less economic standardized foods. It helps in mass production by extending economic status and technologies. As it concerns mass production labors are not skilled to maximum level. It improves productivity of industries. It helps

  • Standardizing the product
  • Use of machine tools
  • Paying higher wages

For instance, Fordism approach was handled when Ford Company introduced Model T. Economy of this model is very low as it is as mass production system so that average customers are making use of it. As a result of massive consumption, labor wages increased. This Ford industrial revolution led to Fordism concept to increase the economy of United States during 1940s to 1960s.

Scientific management

Scientific management is also referred as Taylorism. This theory of management analyzes and synthesizes flow of work.  Overall management increases the economic efficiency and productivity of labor. Basic idea of scientific management was Frederick Winslow Taylor’s shop management and process management approach. He was the first to apply science to management. This scientific management ideas and principles are much more similar to American System of manufacturing.
