Engineering Applications Of Engineering Mechanics

Background:

Applied mechanics helps in analyzing and predicting mechanical engineering principles. Engineering mechanics with engineering applications is broadly classified as follows.

  • Statistics: Statistics is a branch of mechanical science that deals with analysis of load when a physical system is in equilibrium. System shall be either in rest or moving at constant velocity. It helps in easy analysis of solid structures for instance structural engineering and architectural engineering.  It predicts the fluid characteristics in static equilibrium.
  • Dynamics: Dynamics is a branch of science that deals with body in motion. It includes the body torque. It helps in easy understanding of electromagnetism and mechanics.
  • Strength of materials: This deals with microstructure of material changes. It calculates the stress of structural components like beams, shafts and columns. Strength o material predicts the loading of material and related properties.
  • Deformation mechanics: This branch of mechanical science deals mainly with physical body which is subjected to deformation. It helps in easy prediction of deformable body relative position change. It solves solid mechanic problems. Finite element analysis helps in prediction of large displacements.
  • Fluid mechanics: Fluid mechanics concerns about the force applied on fluids. Fluid kinetics and fluid dynamics are branches of fluid mechanics. It analyzes fluid flow visualization with the help of particle image velocimetry. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) provide solutions to fluid mechanical problems.
  • Continuum mechanics: Continuum mechanics deals with mechanical behavior of solids and fluids as continuous particles rather than discrete particles. It concerns continuous physical material with shape and size with respect to applied stress. It studies the characteristics of solid and fluid.
