Selection

Selection is the process of choosing the most suitable candidates from those who apply for the job. It is a process of offering jobs to desired candidates. The recruitment and selection process is one of the basic HR processes. The Recruitment and Selection process is very sensitive one, as many managers have a need to hire a new employee and this process is always under a strict monitoring from their side.

The Recruitment and Selection Process must be simple and must be robust enough to operate excellently in the moment of the insufficient number of candidates on the job market and the process must be also able to process a large number of candidates within given time limit.

The clearly defined Recruitment and Selection Process is a key to the success of any Human Resources Department. In today's rapidly changing business environment, organizations have to respond quickly to requirements for people. Hence, it is important to have a well-defined recruitment policy in place, which can be executed effectively to get the best fits for the vacant positions. Selecting the wrong candidate or rejecting the right candidate could turn out to be costly mistakes for the organization. Selection is one area where the interference of external factors is minimal. Hence the HR department can use its discretion in framing its selection policy and using various selection tools for the best results. Once the potential applicants are identified, the next step is to evaluate their qualification, qualities, experiences, capabilities, etc.and make the selection. It is the process of offering jobs to the desired applicants.

Selection means choosing a few from those who apply, in other words it is picking up of applicants or candidates with requisite qualifications and qualities to fill jobs in the organization. The selection process usually includes the Initial screening interview, application form, written examination and other selection tests, a comprehensive interview, medical examination, checking the references, the final employment decision and placement.
