Performance Management
Performance management may deal with the performance of an organization as a whole, departments or employees individually. The management of these performances is vital to determine if the organization is on high standards or below standards. The management may not only be on positive performances but also on negative performances. For example, if the performance of an employee is good rewards may be given. These rewards should be real and tangible. However, if the performance of an employee is not up to the standards they should be warned and given negative feedback so that they get back on track and perform better.
Performance management requires experience, technique, knowledge, communication, and courage. Without these factors managing performance is very difficult and hard to evaluate. The more the experience the manger has in dealing with others, the easier it will be for him to evaluate the performances of his or her employees. Managers may also be given training in developing their skills in managing employees. The second requirement is technique. There is no specific technique for managing. Sometimes, mangers over react to small problems, this affects the performance of an employee. The manager should have skills enough to man-over the issue in the right manner with the right amount of trust and knowledge. The manager may refer to certain techniques to be cautious about this. The third factor is knowledge. Managers should have knowledge about different people and of different cultures. This knowledge will help them to deal will the concerned individual accordingly. The Manager should also have enough knowledge about employees not only on the work shop but also about their families and see to the welfare of their families in an indirect way. If the employee’s family is taken care of by the Management, the employee owes the company his whole hearted support and will definitely work for the benefit of the company, keeping in mind the management concern of his family. Since he has to taken care of his family a person works. The forth factor is communication. Communication plays a very important role, in performance management. Open and friendly approach in communication with employees will help the organization to reach its goal
