Group Dynamics
Group Dynamics is typically oriented with group study and its processes. A group is two or more individuals are connected to each other by social relationships. They interact and influence with each other, groups always develop a number of dynamic processes that separates them from a collection of individuals.
The term “group process” refers to the behavior understanding of every people in groups, such as group tasks, which leads to make a decision quickly. Peoples are formed in groups to accomplish the task, group process occurs in other types of groups such as personal growth groups.
Group Development:
Group dynamics is applied with the group development which is concerned with why and how groups develop. According to Tuck man’s theory, there are five stages of group development: forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. During these stages group members addresses their several issues and the way in which these issues are resolved and succeeds in completing its tasks.
Forming:
Forming is an orientation period when members get to know one another and share expectations about the group. Members learn the purpose of the group as well as the rules to be followed. Individuals are frequently confused during this stage because roles are not clear and there may not be a strong leader.
Storming:
In this stage, the group is likely to see the highest level of disagreement and conflict. Members often challenge group goals and struggle for power. Individuals often compete for the leadership position during this stage of development. If members are not able to resolve the conflict, they will often disband and never advance to the other stage.
Norming:
Norming stage is characterized by the recognition of individual differences and shared expectations. The group members will begin to develop a feeling of group cohesion and identity. Responsibilities are segregated within members and the group decides how it is evaluated.
Performing:
Performing, happens when the group has matured and attains a feeling of cohesiveness. Individuals understand each other and conflict is resolved through group discussions during this stage. Members make decisions through a rational process and focused on relevant goals and emotional issues.
Adjourning:
All groups are not experienced at this stage of development because it is characterized by the disbandment of the group. The common reasons are accomplishment of the task or individuals deciding go their own ways. Members of the group often experience feelings to closure and sadness as they prepare to leave. These are different theories used to develop the group dynamics in the organization.
