Career Development Strategies

Career development is linked with improving the employees’ contribution and benefits of the organization. The purposes of this development is enhancement of employees’ current assignment and help employees take higher responsibilities for future jobs for better and effective workforce. Each employee is responsible for his or her career development. In an organization the human resources management is responsible for the career development of its employees for them to perform better and reach their goals.

Strategies For Career development:

The following are the strategies that will help an individual in career development.

  • Career Target:

    The first step in career development is the definition of a concrete career target. An individual must first have a goal set in mind. It may be a next step in his or her career or something completely different. This can be set by asking himself or herself the following questions.

    • Who am I? Where am I going?
    • Who do I want to be in two/five years?
    • What are my present strengths and weaknesses?

  • Personal Network:

    The next step is to build a personal network. It may also be referred to as “hidden job market.” It is a long-term process. It is not jus making a lot of contacts possible but making valuable relationships.

  • Social Network:

    For an individual to search for a job he can take the help of social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter. They can make contacts and get to know about the various fields and branches of their interest to develop their career.

  • Be Up-To-Date:

    For a good career development, they should always be up-to-date. For all professions, knowledge of the various language skills, leadership and conflict resolution is necessary.

  • Personal Brand:

    One must have a personal brand or image of himself or herself. As you advance in your career you will build a reputation for yourself and will be able to be identified as an individual of good ethics, knowledge and skills with a good background.
