Human Resource Management
Human Resources Management (HRM) includes a variety of activities, among which the chief are deciding the staffing needs of a firm or organization, deciding whether to use independent contractors or hire employees to fill these needs, recruiting and training the best employees, ensuring they are high performers, dealing with performance issues, and ensuring that personnel and management practices conform to various regulations. These policies are often in the form of employee manuals, which all employees have. In order to maximize organizational effectiveness, it is necessary to mange human potential individuals capabilities, time, and talents. Human resource management works to ensure that employees are able to meet the organization's goals. According to Cherrington (1995)"Human resource management is responsible for how people are treated in organizations. It is responsible for bringing people into the organization, helping them perform their work, compensating them for their labors, and solving problems that arise". The concept of Human Resource Management basically involves a range of concerns from selection-placement to performance appraisal, salary-career management, and training, etc. of employees in organisations. It is a function within an organization that focuses on recruitment, management, and providing direction for the people who work in the organization.
There are seven management functions of a human resources (HR) department that are specifically addressed: staffing, performance appraisals, compensation and benefits, training and development, employee and labor relations, safety and health, and human resource research. Human Resource Management (HRM) can also be performed by line managers.
Therefore, Human Resource Management is the organizational function that deals with issues related to people (employees) such as compensation, hiring, performance management, organization development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication, administration, and training.
