Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis is also called as Caribbean Crisis in Russia or October Crisis in Cuba, was a conflict among the United States and the Soviet Union, Cuba, in October, 1962, during the Cold War. After the ineffective operations by the United States in September, 1962 in order to overthrow the Cuban government (Operation Mongoose, Bay of Pigs), the Soviet and Cuban governments started secretly building bases in the Cuba for several intermediate and medium-range ballistic nuclear missiles (IRBMs and MRBMs) with the ability to attack the many of the continentals in the United States of America. The operation of the Thor IRBMs followed in the year 1958 in United Kingdom and the Jupiter IRBMs to Turkey and Italy in 1967, more than 100 missiles were by US, which had the ability to destroy Moscow with the nuclear warheads. On 14th October, 1962, on photoreconnaissance mission the “US Air Force U-2 plane” captured photographic evidence of the Soviet missile bases in Cuba.
The following crises is related with the Berlin Blockade, which was one of the main conflicts of the Cold War and it is usually considered as the time that the Cold War came conflict to becoming into a nuclear confrontation. It also shows the initial documented occurrence of the threat of the MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) being discussed as the determining factor in the major global arms agreement. The US started attacking Cuba through sea and air and settled on military quarantine of the Cuba. The United States stated that it will not allow offensive weapons to be distributed to the Cuba and insisted that the Soviets remove the missile bases completed or under construction in Cuba and remove all the offensive weapons.
