Women in the Information Age

Much has been changed in the contemporary times notably the issues of women and the importance given to them have marginally risen from the past decades. Women in the information age indicates that their participation in technology and adding choice of dimensions to it. Unlike the past, women move out of their homes largely and housekeeping worries have been thrown out. The causes for these to occur can be analyzed in two ways.

Modernization’s implications

Times have changed concepts like globalization and liberalization, offer employment opportunity in the technical field which has changed the dimension of education. The other but the important aspect is to raise the living standards, to lead a prestigious life and freedom with which women operate today. Not only young girls but even married women have more freedom to work, to spend and hang around outside home beyond time limits unlike the past. While these are positive sides of modernization which has its own implications on every aspect of the society, likewise it has huge impacts upon women and technology.

Exploitation of labor

Whatever happened cannot be taken for granted and considered as good. And so women in the information age suffer more than their counterparts of previous ages. This vulnerable sections though work harder receive unequal and little remuneration when compared to men in the same industry. These women are more likely to be exploited of their labor and already realizing the fact many has opted out of the information technology sector. Researches carried over this segment indicate that the ratios of working women in this industry are far below.

Improvements found already

So it can be understood that the underlying factors still do not allow women to participate in the technology realm. Often in justice is meted out to them in the form remuneration and exploitation of labor is intensive. But still some women take courage to come through all these obstacles and outstand in the field of technology. Potential candidates do not receive recognition and denied opportunities in the technical field delays their arrival.  If issues of gender discrimination reduce and women rights established more concretely, women can infiltrate through the information technology.

But we have been already witnessing their talents in terms of inventing and offering new possible solutions to the technology field. Sufficient opportunities can make them arrive more powerfully in all the fields such as sports, science, technology and arts. Already they are part of decision making in several governments and this women in the information age has to sweat it out before they come off with flying colors.
