Social Psychology
Social psychology is a branch of psychology and a scientific study which explores the relationships between people and groups. It is the study about feelings, behaviors and attitudinal changes that affect human life and are influenced by the society. The implications come from people who are true and are physically present around them. Since it is a scientific study it depends upon the empirical method of investigation to identify and analyze the factors. The terms such as feelings, behaviors and thoughts can be measured since they are psychological variables with the help of tools offered in psychology.
Societal influence
Men live very much in society and greatly are influenced by the activities happening around them. From the childhood whatever he observes are stored in his memory which also influence in his decision making skills. He is prone to be affected by incidents and even when no people are present the factors like listening, reading and watching certain movies on the television have greater implications. These external influences will be coupled with cultural ones and are internalized in the mind.
Holistic approach
Psychologists would state that human behaviors are consequences in the process of the interactions of mental states and immediate social situations. And social psychology is an interdisciplinary which builds the gap between sociology and psychology. This is the result of viewing man in holistic approach, earlier he was considered as mere machine and his behaviors were not able to be measured. After significant contributions from psychologists who described his actions as combined and internalized results of mental states and social situations, then societal factors were given importance in the medical and clinical spheres in terms of diagnosis and treatment.
Inheritance and acquired
Social psychologists have been in the pursuit of experiments to determine the factors which most influence human behavior. The attitude, decision making abilities, mixing with other groups and social conditioning which lead to aberrant behavior are exclusively studied. Man for what he becomes, owes to two sections of people. He owes his parents for what he has inherited and the surrounding in which he was brought up. For these have greater influences on anybody and becomes part of his routine.
Though social psychology is recognized as worthy sphere yet sociology and psychology are growing in their own ways as multiple researches are carried out extensively on these realms. Psychology in itself has many specializations such as clinical psychology which are used in counseling, to diagnose and treat people with mental disabilities. And likewise sociology continues to explore the socio, economic, political and cultural aspects of each society.
