Leadership

Leadership is the act of influencing people. As the definition goes, it is a process in which a person influences the other person in order to accomplish an objective and makes the organization to move in the most coherent and cohesive way. There are various knowledge and skills that are used by the leaders in order to influence the group. The process of applying the leadership skills is referred to as Process Leadership.

Factors of Leadership:

There are four factors which affects leadership. They are leader, followers, communication and situation.

Leader:

 The leader needs to have a clear understanding of his power and influence. He should know who he is, what he knows, and what he can do. The success of the leader is determined by the followers. If any damages occur in the trust or the confidence that the follower has on the leader, and then the follower won’t be inspired which would result in unsuccessful leadership. The first thing that a leader should work on is to persuade the followers than the superiors.

Follower:

There are different styles of leadership followed by different leaders. Compared to the experienced employee, a new hired one will require more attention. A follower who lacks motivation would be in need of another kind of approach compared to the one who is easily motivated. So, if you want to be an effective leader you should know your followers. A good comprehension of the emotions and the needs of the followers would be of much help.

Communication:

The two-way communication is the key of successful leadership. Non verbal communication plays a vital role in the whole communication process. The leader is expected to set the example which would communicate the goal to the followers better than the words.  The way the communication is carried is the successful tools for building relationship.

Situation:

The leader should know that one situation will not work the same as the other situation. So, the judgment from the leader should be based on the situation. At some situation, you might be demanded to confront you follower for the bad behavior, but if the confrontation is carried out too early or too late, too weak or too harsh, the consequence might end up with poor effect. So, the leader should what to do? How to do? And when to do?

These four factors are mainly affected by various forces that act within the group like the relationship, the skill of the followers, and the organization of the group.
