Homosexuality

The sexual or even romantic attraction towards the members of the same sex is broadly known as homosexuality. It refers to an enduring pattern of or disposition to experience sexual, affection, or romantic attractions" primarily or exclusively to people of the same sex;”

Homosexuality Categories:

Homosexuality, bisexuality and heterosexuality are the three main categories that are in the continuum of heterosexual and homosexual arena. Though there are many behavioral and social compromises in the social sciences still homosexuality is considered as a usual and normal variation in the sexual orientation of the human being. There are many religious concerns like Islam, Mormonism, Catholicism and some other psychological associations which have the notion that the homosexual activity is a sin.

Survey Report of Homosexuality:

In terms of homosexuality, the most popular terms in use are gay for men and lesbian for women. Even Gay can be referred for both men and women, where as the term lesbian is used to mean only woman. A study conducted in the modern west has revealed that about two percent to thirteen percent of the population in the west is homosexual. And again another study in the year 2006 has claimed that about twenty percent of the population has reported the feelings and the urge for homosexual activity anonymously. Usually, one can scrutinize lot of homosexual activities among the animals.

Recognition for Homosexuality:

There are some cultures which accept the homosexual activity and there are some cultures which condemn it. So the admiration of the homosexual activity solely depends on the cultural and tradition of the place it occurs. Usually the gays and the lesbians who indulge in homosexual activity are committed to each other and the relationship they hold is in no way different from the heterosexual relationships especially in the psychological aspects. End of the nineteenth century has marked increased recognition, visibility and legal rights that support homosexual people. Of the various legal rights that supported the homosexual people, the rights of employment, marriage and civil unions, military service, adoption and impartial access to the health care are some rights which appreciated the homosexuals.

Reckoning the history of the homosexual takes one back to Greek where the term is originated. The term is a hybrid of Greek and Latin. Though the adjective of the term homosexual relates to the relationships, behavior and orientation, the literal meaning of the work just mean "same sex". The word “homo” is a Greek term which meant same and the “sexual” is taken from the Medieval Latin. Karl-Maria Kertbeny the Austrian born novelist was the first introduced this term in print in the year 1869.
