Double Standard
A double standard is when a man is not held to the same standards as a woman, and vice versa. This concept is related to manners and conduct. For example, it is a double standard, in traditional gender roles, that men can sleep around before marriage and women have to be virgins. That is a classic 'double standard.'
You can also argue that it is a double standard that women can wear pants, but men can't wear skirts. Or that man can go topless, but women can't. The role of double-standard is that men are stronger, tougher, and generally more powerful than women. Women are thought to be weaker, more emotional, and meant to stay in the kitchen and serve her man.
Gender Beauty and Aging:
Our culture which always allows for two standards of male beauty: the boy and the man. The beauty of a boy resembles the beauty of a girl. In both sexes it is a delicate kind of beauty and flourishes naturally only in the early part of the life-cycle. A man does not grieve when he loses the smooth, unlined, hairless skin of a boy. He exchanges his attractiveness from one form to another: the darker skin of a man’s face, roughened by daily shaving, showing the marks of emotion and the normal lines of age.
The single standard of beauty for women indicates having clear skin. Every wrinkle, every line, every gray hair, is a defeat. No wonder that no boy minds becoming a man, while even the passage from girlhood to early womanhood is experienced by many women as their downfall, for all women are trained to continue wanting to look like girls.
Knowledge Gains Power
Unlike our mothers and fathers, we exist in a world that fosters and accepts change. As the roles of women and men become social and corporate world keep evolving. As a result, it is important that men and women work together to overcome the double standards that pervade work places around the country.
Open Communication
The differences of communication between men and women must learn to adapt each other’s styles. For example, men should attempt to talk more about their feelings, listen more, and eliminate sex-related jokes. Women should speak more assertively, stop apologizing, and not be afraid to take control of a conversation. Adopting different styles the men and women cannot only learn how each other relate, but can also learn to embrace communication styles different than their own.
