Class

The term class refers to the group of students who attend lesson in a specific course.  In a philosophical point of view, class refers to the concepts of segregating in terms of kinds and types. In the social perspective, class is the hierarchical arrangements that are determined by the occupation and the wealth of the individuals. Even class refers to the taxonomic rank that is followed in biology. In addition to it, class also refers to the film released in 1983. There are also many other films that has come in the name of class.

Philosophers used the term class to determine the difference in terms of types and kinds. For example, the term class of human being is used to refer to the type or the kind of human being. Now the basic question is how a class can be different from that of a group. The major difference is that the types are treated as universal where as class are not treated as universal. It has been considered that Socrates is the token for type and for the natural kind.

Social Class:

On the other hand, in the social class there are three major layers indentified on the basis of the cultural or economic arrangements. The three layers are the upper class, the middle class, and the lower class. Though there are some smaller classes beside these classes, these classes are identified as the major classes of the society. The basic distinction is the powerful and powerless. Those people with power are recognized as elites who occupied the higher status in the society.

Marxist on Class:

On the other the Marxist theory holds another point of view giving two fundamental class divisions the proletariat and the bourgeoisie on the basis of the structure of the work and the property.  The proletariat is the people who sell their labor power to the capitalist who owned everything in the society. So, there has been a big difference in terms of power and status.

Limited discrimination:

There are no concept of power and hierarchy in the acephalous and the non-stratified societies. There are limited social statuses felt in these societies. In most of the situations every individual in the society enjoy equal social standing.

It is a common perception that a means of production is commonly shared by a class. All the people who belong to one group will make their living in a common way. The class may own things, land, people and labor. It can extract tax, work for a common wage, can produce cultivation and can even be enslaved by others.
