Society and  Culture:

Society as a term is defined as a group of people related to each other by means of social status, lifestyles, and social networks. In other words, we could call it as being social. Society is characterized by the relationships between individuals sharing a distinctive culture and tradition. Society and culture are intertwined. The culture adopted, tradition followed and values of the people play a pivotal role in the society.

The Indian society, for example, is not a uniform one. Thus, it is explicit that diversity is a part of the Indian society. The diverse topography of the country is in sync with the typical variations in art, religion, language, customs and cuisine. Diversity in the social structure is apparently seen from region to region. The traditions and customs followed in North India are markedly different compared to other parts of the country. India, with its rich cultural diversity, is always alluring to the foreigners who visit India.

Though diversity is apparent in India, there is also a common thread running through the Indians. Unity in diversity is best seen in India in a varied group of inherently different people. Indian society is also unified by the caste system prevalent here and adhered to by all racial groups of the Hindu Society. Though caste-ism was strictly followed in the olden times, now it has become flexible to a large extent. Uncommon scenario of matrimonial alliance between the so-called incongruous castes is rarely seen in India.  All the major religions of the world are found in India, where people of different faiths live together and celebrate the festivals of the other sects.

One can find the impact of other cultures on India when we see how Indian culture has adopted the cultures of invaders and visitors and created a unique style of its own. The culture of Indian society is undergoing rapid changes. Urban India becoming more cosmopolitan and rural India as well undergoing social change can be vividly seen. The large population and the growing economy of India have drawn the attention of the world. Even though there is a rapid change in the Indian culture through Westernization, Indian society still retains many aspects of its traditional culture. Cultures will continue to grow and perish from time to time. Society has to mend its ways of living and lifestyles accordingly.
