FORENSIC SCIENCE & PSYCHOLOGY PROFILING
Forensic science is that application of wide range of scientific related fields to aid investigations of the legal systems like criminal or civil case. In Roman times, charge of a criminal act was defined as presenting the case of two groups before the public. In a case of crime the accused person and the opposing person will argue for justice from their side. The person or individual who delivered his point in efficient way will determine the result of the case. Thus the word Forensic is used in these modern ages to refer a form of presentation of cases before public.
Lack of effective forensic practices in the ancient days aided criminals to escape from punishments. Investigations were based on the confessions and witnesses only. The first book of Medicine and Entomology (287-212 BC) helped the investigators to investigate the murder cases. It helped them to examine the main cause of death of a person like murder, suicide, accident, etc, and finger prints were used as evidences by the anthropologist Juan Vucetich. In 16th century Medial Practitioners tried to collect information about the causes of death by using advance methods. The effects of death on internal organs were found by a French surgeon, Ambroise Pare. In the late 18th century, the way of finding the arsenics as a cause of death was found by the chemists Carl Wilhelm Scheele and James Marsh. Later in 20th century, several new forensic scientific methods were found by Bernard Spilsbury, Francis Camps, Keith Simpson and Sydney Smith.
Psychological Profiling is a division of criminal sciences which provide a precise method to guide the investigators in the right way. It helps the investigator to observe the offender’s behavior, his/her motives and the background of the crime which guides him to precede the future investigation. The method of Psychological profiling was first used as a method in 1950’s. In this Psychological approach method, investigators research the killer’s behaviors, their childhood and their background. Analysis of the criminal’s habits, rituals, life style, and personal life will help the investigators to understand the criminal behavior. Thomas Bond, Walter C. Langer, James A. Brussel, Howard Tetan, Richard Walter, John Douglas and David canters are some of the important people who involved in the development of Psychological Profiling methods.
The main goals of the psychological profiling methods are
Finally, if we analyze the characteristics of Forensic Science and Psychological Profiling methods, Forensic science concentrates on the physical evidences of the crime while Psychological Profiling methods provides the details of the Psychological evaluation of the criminal. Both of the Systems helps the investigators to reach their goal to provide proper causes, psychological reasons and evidences of the crime to Criminal Justice Systems.
