Introduction part of an academic writing contains the context to sketch out the outline of the writing or subject. It may summarize the entire article and used for quick sketching. The bold claim or argument, called as the Thesis part, is a promise by the author that he will convince the readers with his strong points. Navigation Techniques like summaries of ideas, logical and keyword transitions guide the reader to read and understand easily. Evidences are the important part of academic writing to justify the arguments to the readers. Counter Arguments or Conversational turns help to write about arguments by opponents of that idea. The Conclusion part has the overall idea of the argument or concept and gives the summarization of the entire article. Some important features of academic writings are Complexity, Formality, Precision, Clean, Explicitness, Accuracy, Objectivity and Responsibility.

Academic Writings are more formal and the informal styles like Slang and Contractions are avoided. These writings are more impersonal and in objective style. Academic writers should write in a formal way and write from the third-person perspective. They should have a clear idea about the subject or the discussion to write effectively. The words “I”, “we”, “you” are not used in an academic writing. Informal words and phrases are not used in academic writing. For example, the word “investigate” is used in stead of using “look at carefully”. In this method, cautious or tentative styles are followed. Academic writers give suggestions rather than stating his/her own idea about a discussion.  Collecting information from other sources like digital and printed materials, studying views of other authors on a specific topic and approaching a problem in different point of views are the important referencing techniques by academic writers.

Academic writers should have strong writing abilities, knowledge of using good grammar and his/her own stylistic approach for writing the subject. Academic writing is a very useful and an effective tool that is used by international students, authors and teachers to write essays and formal assignments.
