Electrical Breakdown
The electrical breakdown has a lot of similar meanings, however certainly different meanings. For instance, the term electrical breakdown could also be used to refer to the power failure or electric circuit failure. Also, it could be used to refer to the quick decrease in the resistance of the electrical insulator which could lead to a spark through or jumping around the insulator. This might be a momentary event like in the electrostatic discharge or it might lead to the constant arc discharge if the protective devices stop functioning to interrupt the power or current in the high power circuit. This term is also used in the automobiles for the failure of the electric circuit in the vehicle or related devices which results in the loss of the vehicle function or vehicle breakdown. Some of the common problems are alternator failure, battery discharge, blown fuses, broken wires etc.
Another meaning of the electrical breakdown is more particularly refers to the failure or breakdown of the electrical component or failure of the insulation of the electric wire. Such type of failure would results in a blown fuse or short circuit and this usually happens at the breakdown voltage. The insulation breakdown is often found in the high-voltage applications, where it at times causes the opening of the protective circuit breaker. The electrical breakdown usually happens due to the failure of the liquid or solid insulating materials which is used inside the high voltage capacitors or transformers in the electricity supply grid. The electrical breakdown could also happen across the insulators which are suspended above the power lines, lines arcing to close to branches of the trees or within the underground power cables.
